    Exhibition Słońsk – Station 8:

The panel shows the Knights’ Hall, the centrepiece of the former Order residence in Sonnenburg. A QR code links digital 3D views of the once magnificent hall.

The Knights’ Hall was located on what is now the 1st floor, which could be reached via the central staircase. Here the knights of the order gathered at long tables for meetings and festivities. The rich interior decoration in Baroque and Neo-Gothic style, the portraits of the Masters and Commendators as well as the coats of arms of the Order’s brothers on the walls were intended to remind us of the long tradition and history of the Order of Saint John.

Above the fireplace at the southern end of the hall hung the portrait of the Master Johann Moritz of Nassau-Siegen and opposite him the portrait of the Master Prince Karl of Prussia. Rosettes with Johannite crosses can still be seen in the upper arches of the windows.
