The village and church belonged to the Order of St. John’s Friedland. The church was built in 1719/20 and replaced a dilapidated predecessor. The weather vane probably dates from before that time. It bears the letters “BS” for Ballei Sonnenburg and the year 1606. The double eagle indicates that Lower Lusatia used to belong to Bohemia and was under the Austrian double eagle of the Habsburgs. In the tower, three bells date from the middle of the 16th century and the years 1588 and 1596.
