The former Templar church in nearby Marxdorf, 4 km west of Lietzen, is well preserved. The village of “Marquardestorp” was first mentioned in a document in 1244 as a Templar property. The core of the church is a fieldstone building from this period. The St. John’s cross on the façade above the entrance testifies to its presence until 1810. The tower extension was built in 1850 as part of extensive modernisation.
