    EU-funded project for the tourist valorisation of the history of St. John in the Oder-Warthe region (2019-2023)

    In 2019, the municipality of Słońsk, together with its partners, the city of Seelow and the Brandenburg Provincial Cooperative of the Order of St John, launched an EU-funded project to promote the history of the Order of St John in the region. The primary goals were to protect the ruins of Słońsk Castle from further decay and to link other Johanniter sites to create a new tourist offer. Until 2023, interrupted by the Corona pandemic, the project partners worked on numerous project contents, e.g.:

    • Development of the new tourist brand “Traces of St John” in the Oder-Warthe region,
    • Study on the history of the Order of St. John in the Oder-Warthe region,
    • Study on the history and architecture of the former Order Castle in Słońsk,
    • Development of a barrier-free permanent exhibition at and in the former Order Castle in Słońsk, with a 3D model of the former castle, numerous tactile, elements and a lot of information about the Order and the castle,
    • Development of a tourist trail on the “Traces of St John” in the Oder-Warthe region,
    • Development of a marketing and utilisation concept for the Słońsk castle ruins,
    • Development of print products, e.g. hiking map, brochures, colouring book, puzzle booklet, flyers and posters and much more,
    • EntDevelopment of a multilingual website,
    • EntwDevelopment of an augmented reality app on the former Sonnenburg Order Castle in Słońsk,
    • Production of an image film
    • and much more.
